I have the honor and I am blessed to have Mr. Umar Bin Hassan, one of the original members of "The Last Poets" come to Albuquerque, New Mexico to perform in a poetry event I am promoting on March 15, 2014, at The African American Performing Arts Center. #TheLastPoets are credited with being the Godfathers of Hip Hop genre. Groups like The Last Poets, The Watts Prophets, and Gil Scott Heron were at the forefront of the Social Conscious Movement of Black America in the 1960's and 1970's.
