THE LAST POETS
As time has progressed, poetry has developed into a medium for people to express their deepest thoughts and emotions. It becomes an expression of art, put in to words, and remains remarkable in people’s feelings. Back in the day, poetry was once used call out to the nation’s dilemma on race, socioeconomic, and sociopolitical issues and the group behind this was The Last Poets.
The Last Poets were rappers of the civil rights era; they consist of several groups of poets and musicians in the late 1960’s African-American civil rights movement's Black Nationalist movement. The Last Poet have contributed dramatic changes to the Hip-Hop Music industry. Critic Jason Ankeny wrote: "With their politically charged raps, taut rhythms, and dedication to raising African-American consciousness, The Last Poets almost single-handedly laid the groundwork for the emergence of Hip-Hop Music."
If you want to hear POWERFUL POETRY from THE BROTHERS who are credited with being "THE GODFATHERS" of Hip Hop Music, and who provided INSPIRATION to the people, and those involved in the "BLACK POWER MOVEMENT" in the 1960's and early 1970's, then you DON'T want to miss this event.
